Abstract: The mathematical description of wave propagation in elastic materials and structures is presented. Specifically, the considerations concern acceleration waves, waves of higher order, strong discontinuity waves, surface waves as well as solitary waves in structures and shallow water. The following issues are discussed: discontinuity, reflection, and propagation speed, among others.
