Abstract: As it is well known surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices implementing shear horizontal (SH) waves can be used as sensor operating in liquid environment. They can be used to determine such liquid properties as: viscosity, permittivity, conductivity and mass loading on the sensor surface. The influence of number of electrodes used in the interdigital transducers, on sensor attenuation and sensitivity was considered. The utility of various piezoelectric materials as substrates for liquid sensors was also tested. Three various materials were taken into account: 36oYX LiTaO3, 41oYX LiNbO3 and 64oYX LiNbO3. Two types of sensors (wideband and narrowband) were made and examined.
