Abstract: A passive linear array consisting of eight hydrophones was tested in the air. The measurements were done in a laboratory hall as well as outdoors. Strongly coherent scenario due to multipath propagation was involved in the first case. The location angles of two acoustic sources were determined with the use of different methods. Conventional beamforming (CBF), minimum variance beamforming (MVB) and MUSIC algorithm were applied as localization techniques. The influence of forward-backward spatial smoothing for the results was examined as well. The area of multiple sources passive direction of arrival (DOA) estimation has been of great interest for many years. However, not many papers deal with field experiments. Testing an array of hydrophones in the air, instead of water, is very convenient. The length-scale contraction due to lower acoustic velocity is one of the advantages.
